The Superbowl has become a national holiday. It is very much like Thanksgiving in many ways. Consider that, similarly to Thanksgiving, people gather with family and friends, watch football and of course, eat too much food. Superbowl Sunday is second to only one holiday in terms of food consumed by Americans. That holiday? You guessed it; Thanksgiving.
What happens to those who are on a diet on Superbowl Sunday? They generally succumb and eat too much of the wrong kinds of food and consume too much beer. While this may be an enjoyable experience on Sunday, come Monday these people are riddled with guilt about their indiscretions.
Well I have a solution that will allow you to still have a good time, but also allow you to stay within the confines of your diet. I always recommend that people consume a lower percentage of carbohydrates, even if they aren’t trying to lose weight. If you are trying to lose weight, really keeping track of your carbohydrates is the way to go. During the Superbowl, this is possible as well. Here is a list of low carbohydrate foods that you can consume during the Superbowl so you can enjoy the festive atmosphere and feel guilt free tomorrow.
Low Carbohydrate Superbowl Snacks
- Deviled Eggs
- Pepperoni “Chips” (stick them in the microwave)
- Smoked Salmon and Cream Cheese on Cucumber Slices
- Buffalo Chicken Wings (or any chicken wing without a sweet sauce!)
- Guacamole (use Wasa crackers for dipping)
- Mixed Nuts
- Veggies with hummus
- Deli Meat Roll-ups
- Buffalo Chicken Dip
If you’re going to drink, try Vodka with a twist of lemon or lime on the rocks. Vodka doesn’t have any carbs in it. Enjoy the Superbowl and enjoy Monday a little more this year!
